Lowes Moore
Lifetime Achievement Award
Lowes Moore is the former Executive Director/Development of the Mount Vernon Boys and Girls Club, the place which provided him guidance and direction in life. He has helped hundreds of kids enter college. A humble man from the housing projects of Mount Vernon, he is successful, and still giving back. Lowes is the author of From The Boys & Girls Club To NBA (Life On The Narrow), and his current works in progress are Lowes Moore Literacy Campaign.
Lowes has been an inspirational speaker at various sites, which include NFL and NBA Pre-Game Chapels, corporations and businesses, churches, schools and community agencies. Lowes prides himself on being a student of the gospel and a student of life. Wherever you see him, he is learning, so that he can become a better teacher. He not only practices what he preaches, but he preaches and teaches what he practices. He will often tell someone to make sure they give back what they have been given, and he has done that.
Lowes received his license to preach the gospel from Macedonia Baptist Church in February 1986, under the leadership of Rev. Richard H. Dixon. He is currently an Ordained Elder at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Faith Temple, under the leadership of Bishop Leon Dixon. Lowes’ dream for years has been to be an inspirational leader to young people and athletics, and to assist them in becoming successful in all aspects of their lives. As a result, he established a program called the Hoop School in the 1980’s in Albany, NY, where he and fellow professional athletes conducted motivational speeches and workshops for adolescents, parents and coaches. Being the product of a single-parent home most of his life, Lowes was guided by the direction of a mentor, friend and father figure, James Jones, who was the Director of the Mount Vernon Boys Club. Lowes continues to give back to the community and young people, the same guidance and leadership that he learned from Mr. Jones. While playing professional sports, one would often find Lowes back in his hometown providing free clinics and workshops. He has become a mentor, friend, and father figure to Omar Ford and Jamayal Johnson, who like himself, was a product of a single-parent home in Albany, NY.
Lowes graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1976 and West Virginia University in 1980. After receiving Basketball All-American Honorable Mention in his sophomore and junior years and All-American Honors in his senior year, Lowes was drafted by the New Jersey Nets. Lowes played three years in the NBA with the Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers and San Diego (Los Angeles) Clippers. Lowes also spent five years in the Continental Basketball Association on two championship teams with the Albany Patroons. He was coached by Jodie Gardner, Gale Catlett, Kevin Loughery, Bill Musselman, Paul Silas, Phil Jackson and George Karl. The best coach he ever played for was James Jones at the Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon. Lowes has coached basketball on the high school, college, and professional level. Currently, owner of Lowes Moore Global Communications (Speaker/Motivator, Life Coach, Consultant, Author, Sports Consultant, and host of the Blueprint Podcast.
